The above-described devices for securing a patient's airway, however, typically do not secure the patient in the prone position. Thus, in order to provide further protection of the airway during medical procedures in the prone position, a medical professional typically places a standard pillow between the patient's face and the device, such as a laryngeal airway. A patient with a laryngeal airway is able to communicate with medical professionals due to the visual and tactile communications provided through the laryngeal airway. However, a patient with a standard pillow placed between the patient's face and the laryngeal airway is not able to communicate with medical professionals. Thus, the use of a standard pillow renders the laryngeal airway less effective in securing the patient's airway. Accordingly, it is desirable to provide a laryngeal airway for securing the patient's airway in the prone position, while enabling the patient to communicate with medical professionals.
